Since 1945 JCB has engineered backhoe loaders and telehandlers for contractors who need one machine to dig, load and place. Electrification and autonomy pilots do not override machine-specific load charts, ISO 4406 hydraulic cleanliness baselines or CE 2006/42/EC documentation on current backhoe and telehandler deliveries. Battery packages still need a planned charge window; Level-4 haul trials stay on mapped benches with a safety supervisor until the 2030 unsupervised gate. When buyers debate electric compact iron versus diesel Stage V for urban or underground hours, application engineers size dig depth, annual hours and grid access before the fleet count is frozen — the roadmap is a planning horizon, not a substitute for today’s operating-weight and breakout-force shortlist.
