About JCB

JCB — From Diesel Iron to a Digital Jobsite by 2030

Since 1945 JCB has engineered backhoe loaders and telehandlers for contractors who need one machine to dig, load and place. Our roadmap now spans battery-electric earthmoving, Level-4 autonomous haul pilots and a digital twin of every active quarry we support. Across roughly 1.1 million square metres of production area and dealer cover in 150 countries, application engineers still start every conversation with dig depth, lift radius and shift pattern — not a brochure slogan.

Vision 2030

Four pillars that keep construction fleets productive past the next decade

Procurement teams evaluating CE 2006/42/EC and EPA Tier 4 Final packages also ask where the platform is heading. These pillars show how electrification, autonomy, telematics and hydrogen pilots connect to the backhoe and telehandler fleets already earning on your sites — with realistic year gates instead of open-ended promises.

Electrification

  • 2025 — first 600 kWh wheel loader pilots
  • 2027 — electrified rigid hauler support packages
  • 2030 — zero-diesel quarry option with dealer charge planning

Autonomy

  • 2025 — supervised tele-remote for highwall zones
  • 2027 — Level-4 haul-truck convoy trials
  • 2030 — unsupervised pit operations on mapped benches

Digital Twin

  • 2026 — full ISO 15143-3 AEMP telematics feed
  • 2028 — predictive replacement for high-wear pins and bushings
  • 2030 — site-wide twin linking fleet hours to PM calendars

Hydrogen Pilots

  • 2026 — H2-ICE wheel loader demonstration units
  • 2028 — fuel-cell rigid hauler customer trials
  • 2030 — H2 refuel network planning with partner EPCs

What Vision 2030 does not replace on today’s RFQ

Electrification and autonomy pilots do not override machine-specific load charts, ISO 4406 hydraulic cleanliness baselines or CE 2006/42/EC documentation on current backhoe and telehandler deliveries. Battery packages still need a planned charge window; Level-4 haul trials stay on mapped benches with a safety supervisor until the 2030 unsupervised gate. When buyers debate electric compact iron versus diesel Stage V for urban or underground hours, application engineers size dig depth, annual hours and grid access before the fleet count is frozen — the roadmap is a planning horizon, not a substitute for today’s operating-weight and breakout-force shortlist.
